Teachers are not happy with the invigilation rates offered by the Botswana Examinations council (BEC) for external examinations.

The executive secretary of the Botswana Secondary Teachers Union (BOSETU) Justin Hunyepa said that next year, they will fight for the hike of the P28 per hour they are getting.

"The teachers have agreed with the principle of being paid for invigilation but not the rates. We have also agreed that since this is the starting point, we will negotiate for better rates next year. We will revisit the issue with the concerned parties," he said. He explained that teachers were not happy that they will be the ones doing the bulk of the work while the school heads with little to do will be given more money.
