Teachers urged to set performance targets

FRANCISTOWN: The managing director of Diamond Educational Publishers, Johnson Chengeta has said teachers must set clear objectives and performance targets to help schools.

"Without these, you and your team will be like a boat following the wind," he said. Chengeta was speaking on Friday at the Montsamaisa Junior Secondary School prize giving ceremony held under the theme: "Education - an essential ingredient to one's upward mobility". He urged the management of the school to be prepared to change and take chances. "Those who do not take chances do not make advances. Ask yourself why some schools are successful while others fail. The school leadership must influence and not control everything, they must motivate, inspire and reward good performance without fear," said Chengeta.

He told school managers to use their power fairly and wisely for the benefit of those they are leading. He reminded them that leaders are authentic and imitation is limitation.
