TB notification rates higher for men

Officially opening a seminar to mark International Women's Day and World TB Day at Maharaj yesterday, Professor Sheila Tlou said in 2005, 57 percent of notified TB cases in Botswana were males and 43 percent females.

She said the historical ability of women to take care of themselves better than men in terms of early health seeking behaviour, adherence to treatment and more hygienic environment has resulted in lower morbidity and mortality from diseases such as TB and HIV.
