Taxi operators up in arms

Taxi operators in Gaborone are up in arms because pirate operators are taking away business from them. Pirate taxis have been making brisk business in and around the city despite the public sector strike.

Of late, pirate operators, who are using Asian imported cars, have invaded the taxi market.  Some of the pirate operators are even operating from the Gaborone Main Station, parallel to the licensed taxi operators.

The unlicensed operators ply lucrative routes like the Gaborone station/Phase II and many others.  The pirate operators also operate from busy shopping complexes.  They target shoppers who buy in bulk.  "A nka go thusa," is how they approach potential passengers.   In such cases, the passengers are expected to make a special booking.
