Taxi drivers await Motsumi's green light

Minister of Works and Transport Lesego Motsumi is on May 17 expected to announce some far-reaching curbs to realign the movement of buses that are currently said to be interfering with the routing system in Gaborone.

According to Gaborone Taxi and Local Bus Service Association chairperson Gibson Matenge, it was decided in a meeting yesterday, between the association and the officials from the ministry, that the minister be given time to study the issue before making any announcement on it. Pacifying his members, who had threatened to disrupt their services last week Friday to hand over a petition to the minister, Matenge said they would only "have an informed decision" on May 17.

Taxi and combi drivers had vowed they would park their vehicles to protest the illegal buses taking over the routing system in the capital.
