Suspects escape with police car

Two suspects overpowered three police officers escorting them and used the vehicle they were being transported in to escape yesterday.

The men who had just been denied bail at Village Magistrates Court allegedly spent some time in the court toilets before they got in the car. It is said that a fight ensued between the suspects and security officers when they were about to leave, and a prison warder and a police officer were injured. The suspects are said to have used sharp instruments to overpower the three officers who were escorting them before they escaped in the white Opel Astra that was transporting them. Interestingly, the suspects allegedly wore handcuffs and leg irons. Sources say the escapees drove in the direction of Tlokweng.

The suspects are said to have cases of motor vehicle theft, armed robbery and escaping from lawful custody. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Christopher Mbulawa told Mmegi yesterday that he has nothing to share with the media.  Last year in April, some suspects also injured police officers with knives and escaped from a police van near Kgale Hill, on their way from Ramotswa Magistrates Court.
