Support groups fail to get NACA funding

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Four local HIV/AIDS support groups here have failed to secure funding from the National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) because their proposals did not address specific themes.

The first call of NACA's Botswana National HIV/AIDS Prevention Support project (BNAPS) sponsorship came to an end in February. The second call funded only non-governmental organisations in Selebi-Phikwe to a tune of over P2 million for carrying out multiple concurrent prevention activities. The call for proposals focused on multiple concurrent partnerships and transactional/inter-generational sex.

Those whose proposals were successful include Humana People to People, BOCAIP, Good Samaritan, Phikwe Theatre, Baylor Teen Club and Mothers For All. These NGOs are expected to carry out different outreach activities with interventions that will vary from door to door in schools, churches and workplaces.
