Study attempts assessment of anti-AIDs services

A needs assessment of sexual transmission prevention services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Botswana revealed that stigma is still a major problem.

The majority of people interviewed showed that barriers to seeking prevention services were associated with discrimination and stigma of AIDS, hence the fear of disclosure. An Academy for Educational Development (AED) technical advisor for Prevention with Positives (PwP) project, Lisa Jamu said this week at Gaborone Sun, that some people do not use the available services because they will have to disclose their status which they do not want to do because they are afraid of discrimination.

AED did the assessment to determine what prevention services are currently available and offered in Botswana for people living positively with HIV.
