'Students' burn Maun SSS

FRANCISTOWN: Facebookers claiming to be Maun Senior Secondary School students have claimed responsibility after two classrooms and two offices at the school were burnt down last week. They claim they burnt the school in protest against student-teacher love affairs

Six  classrooms and three offices, one belonging to Lion's Club, were turned into charred shells after they were burned down by mysterious fires last week.It all started the previous Saturday and the following day, all of the incidents happened coincidentally around 10pm, according to Maun Police Station Commander, Kenny Badumetse, who said on Friday that they couldn't rule out foul play.On Thursday at the same time two classrooms and two offices, one of which was used by the Scripture Union (SU), all went up in flames again.Besides the concrete structures and roofing materials, chairs, tables, books and other equipment were destroyed in the fires. So far, said Badumetse, no one has been arrested as their investigations had not yet yielded anything. Badumetse, certainly playing his cards close to his chest, could only say they suspected someone to be behind the sabotage.

However, from information gleaned on a Facebook page, some students have claimed responsibility. On the page called "The Voice wa Maun Senior Secondary School", people purporting to be students alleged that they were behind the fires and that they were deliberately burning down the school. They alleged that some teachers at the school were engaging in love affairs with female students and they want the teachers expelled. A post from one of the people who purports to be a student said:"With all due rspct Sir (Mr Mafoko) am nt goin 2 cum forward nd u wl neva catch me,bcz um nt sadam hussain nor gaddafi or Bin ladden hu wr caught. Um jst The Voice!(sic)
"U knew about ths scandal affairs btwn matiza nd studnt nd u hve dne nuthin abwt it so nw ka gre ke ntshetse mosi ka sekhurumelo u r acting lyk itz th 1st tym hearin abwt ths nd u r callin me a culprit....kante golo fa hu is th culprit? Badumetse said it was the first time such incidents have happened at the school and he expressed his frustration with the fact that people were not coming forward with information that could help them unravel the mystery and arrest the culprits. However, the headmaster Mange Mafoko, denied the allegations of love affairs between teachers and students. He referred The Monitor to the regional director who could not be reached for comment.
