Strikers shut Mochudi in stealth operation

All government offices and schools in Mochudi were closed yesterday morning after a stealth operation by striking public service employees.

After the covert operation, the workers got even more creative in the afternoon, enacting a mock wedding procession to overcome the obstacle of seeking a licence to hold a demonstration.   In the morning, the workers reportedly evaded the police radar by despatching teams to different government offices without showing their intentions. "We hid our placards which we removed at the gates and sang to attract the attention of those at work.

It all happened at 7am and it was a very quick undertaking because we did not want to spend the whole day arguing or fighting with the police," said the Botswana Federation of Public Sector Union Kgatleng regional chairman Baraedi Lekabe.
