Strike turns nasty

The workers who braved the chilly weather, were by 9am marching from the Chedu Choga grounds chanting struggle songs, as they headed towards the city centre. They decided to camp at the Thapama Hotel circle, which connects most of the Francistown routes, and blocked all roads. From all points, huge stones aligned roads at the Thapama circle denying cars access. Cars already on the road were forced to stop as violent striking workers forced them to make U-turns.
In their hands, they brandished huge sticks, rocks and various weapons. Traffic congestion worsened as even trailers tried to turn back. Singing provocative songs the workers placed tyres and dry grass on the roads as they waited for a more opportune time to set them alight. "Re biletse lekgowa leo, re le tsenye mo ganong la tau, BOFEPUSU ke mochaochele, re kgonwa ke madi a tsene...," they sang.
