Strike may commence soon

The congresses of the various public sector unions are scheduled to convene soon and it is expected that they will unanimously resolve to recommence the public sector industrial action, the Secretary General of BOFEPUSU has said.

Andrew Motsamai was responding to the recent announcement that on June 17,  2011, Minister Peter Siele amended the Second Schedule of the Trade Disputes Act [Cap 48:02] by adding Veterinary Services, teaching Services, Diamond Sorting, Cutting and Selling services and; all support services in connection therewith to the list of essential services.

Motsamai said that the timing of the amendment reeks of mala fides. "It represents a perverted use of public power by the minister. It is the clearest indication that the current standoff between Government and the public sector unions requires a political solution.
