Strike chokes Chobe District

The impact of the ongoing civil servants' strike is being felt by Chobe residents with the health and education sectors being the most affected.

On Sunday morning a nurse on duty left some of the patients in the queue at Kazungula clinic because, as he told the security officer, he had to attend a union meeting at the Rural Administration centre.  Some of the patients waited for more than five hours before he returned while those who were not patient enough decided to seek help at Kasane Primary Hospital, some 12kms away.

One of the patients, who refused to be identified, complained that the situation was unhealthy for her because she desperately needed treatment for TB. She could not afford to travel to Kasane Primary Hospital because she did not have money for transport.
