Street cameras to aid policing of cities

The Botswana Police Service (BPS) is currently working on installing Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in Gaborone and surrounding areas for crime-free streets as well as to improve the general security of the public.

Reached for an interview the BPS deputy public relations officer, senior superintendent Near Bagali said the project has commenced in Gaborone. 

“The installation has commenced within the city and so far so good because there have been trials. In the next financial year the project will be rolled out to Francistown intended to keep both cities secure by virtue of being the major centres of development and economic drivers of the country. Crime is high and through the use of surveillance cameras the public’s security would be guarded at all costs,” Bagali said.
