"Stop felling the trees," Monna pleads

The director of environmental affairs in the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Steve Monna, says environmentalists need political champions to advance their cause.

Briefing journalists on the 'World Day to Combat Desertification', Monna said it should be every Motswana's responsibility to conserve the environment.

He said they were concerned about the cutting down of trees and the indiscriminate mining of pit sand and gravel. He called on the Village Development Committees to apply for surface rights so that those who want to mine should pay a fee.
