Stolen Cattle At GCC Slaughterhouse

The police are investigating a case in which eight head of cattle landed at the Gaborone City Council (GCC) abattoir on Thursday night with fake permits.

Reports say a Gaborone butchery is being investigated in connection with the crime. The cattle belong to Modiriemang Mogapi of Moshupa who intervened before GCC could slaughter them. He keeps the cattle at Letlhakane, eight kilometres from Moshupa.

The cattle were scheduled for slaughter last Friday but Mogapi's relative identified them at the GCC slaughterhouse and raised the alarm. The relative was in a Combi when he spotted the cattle. He alighted from the Combi and called Mogapi to berate him for selling the animals without consultation. However, Mogapi denied selling the cattle and the two went to report the matter to the police, who say they are looking for a man who drove the beasts in a truck to the slaughterhouse at around 6pm on Thursday. Officers at the slaughterhouse say a truck off-loaded the animals some distance away from the facility and drove-off swiftly. Police are mystified as to how stolen cattle were allowed into the slaughterhouse.
