Still no audit of alcohol levy, copyright funds

Since its inception in 2008 there are still no audited accounts for the Alcohol Levy Fund and the Copyrights Fund.

Government began collecting levy on imported and locally-made blank sound and audio visual carriers (CDs, tapes, DVDs) and equipment capable of being used to copy protect materials in 2008.

According to the March 2011 auditor general's report, the blame lies squarely on the auditor general himself as he has allegedly failed to appoint auditors. The auditor general accepts that the audits for the funds ought to be carried out by independent auditors appointed by his office.Funds from the Copyright Fund are meant to be used for the professional development of authors and publishers of different works.
