Spy exposed at Labour Day celebrations

FRANCISTOWN: A suspected intelligence agent became dumbstruck on Tuesday when his cover was blown during the poorly attended Labour Day celebrations at the Francistown Civic Centre.

Immediately after the introduction of guest speaker and vice president of Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU), Eric Ditau, one of the organisers of the celebrations, Ishmael William rose and went to the front to inform the Master of Ceremonies about the sleuth who was among the delegates.

The Master of Ceremonies Kobamo Motsokono from Botswana Power Corporations Workers Union then shouted into the microphone to inform the workers about the security intelligent agent. Motsokono reminded the audience about a similar incident last week in Gaborone between Labour and Home Affairs Minister Charles Tibone and union leaders. He regretted that security intelligence agents are infiltrating their activities but he welcomed the unmasked sleuth to stay at the celebrations. "We welcome intelligence agents to this event because they are also workers. We urge them to unionise like other workers," he said. Even though his cover was blown, the agent remained seated until Ditau made his address. Ditau condemned privatisation in his speech. He reminded workers that BFTU rejected privatisation and said the exercise is an extension of capitalism and globalisation. "It is not a dream to establish an egalitarian society. The government should not abandon its social responsibility."
