SPTC urged to consider competitive subsistence allowances

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) has been urged to consider providing a competitive subsistence allowance to curtail huge hotel bills incurred during official trips.

Speaking at a special full council meeting convened to discuss budget estimates, councillor Mmapula Phuduhudu said the current subsistence allowance should be reviewed so that an individual can opt for it instead of spending around P1,500 a day in a hotel.

A competitive subsistence allowance would address a situation where a lot of money is spent on trips. We do not have creativity when we draft our budget estimates, she said. Councillor Tebogo Matlhogonolo called on all council committees and relevant departments to intensify their service levy collection methods and strategies.
