Split emerges in Moupo camp

The power struggle in the Botswana National Front (BNF) is getting complicated with the emergence of what amounts to a third force, just when it was thought the rivalry for the control of the main opposition party is a two-horse race. The new entrant in the contest has come courtesy of a split in the camp of party president Otsweletse Moupo. The Moupo camp has now come up with two lobby lists.

In both lists, Moupo is the undisputed presidential candidate and the major difference is over the position of vice president currently held by Dr Kathleen Letshabo. While one group in the Moupo camp prefers South East North MP, Olebile Gaborone, the other one wants Gaborone attorney Gabriel Kanjabanga who has been acting for Moupo in his recent curatorship cases.

Arafat Khan, spokesperson of the group that endorses Gaborone as the vice president told Mmegi that their list is the genuine one and it enjoys wide support.
