Spillover of SA strike dries up fuel supplies

Fuel supplies in Botswana are becoming erratic and the situation is likely to get worse before it normalises, due to continued strike action by transport workers in South Africa while supplies are diminishing here.

The strike by workers of logistics company Transnet which controls SA's rail and port transportation has paralysed operations in South Africa, leaving oil companies in Botswana with only the road as a means of importing fuel.

Some service stations in and around Gaborone have been without fuel since Friday as oil companies struggle to bring in as much supplies as they could from South Africa by road. Reports of fuel shortages have also been reported in places like Ramotswa and Ghantsi.
