SELEBI-PHIKWE: Selebi-Phikwe Councillors have expressed disappointment and anger at the failure of the Selebi-Phikwe Diversification Unit (SPEDU) to attend the Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) meeting that was held here on Monday.

Despite explanation by the council management that SPEDU had been informed about the special full council meeting together with BCL mine as important stakeholders, unhappy councillors demanded that SPEDU in particular, must attend as it is the engine for economic diversification in the town.

Councillors said that SPEDU's absence could be an indication that the town's authorities are not united.  furious councillors nearly called for adjournment of the meeting if only to ensure SPEDU's presence when the meeting resumed, but town mayor Godfrey Mbaiwa pleaded with them to consider the fact that they would be denying themselves the opportunity to receive knowledge from the EDD department.
