Sparks fly at Motswaledi hearing

There was high drama on Sunday when suspended Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general, Gomolemo Motswaledi was brought before the party's Disciplinary Committee (DC) as top lawyers Sidney Pilane and Parks Tafa crossed swords.

It is understood that Pilane,  who represented Motswaledi, grilled Tafa before the DC chairman Ambrose Masalila.

In the hearing Tafa is a witness in the case in which Motswaledi's main accuser is BDP Publicity Committee chairman, Shaw Kgathi. The Bobirwa MP reported Motswaledi in August saying that he acted unilaterally and questioned the decisions of President Ian Khama to appoint BDP sub-committee members, extending the contract of party executive secretary, Dr Comma Serema and rebuking law firm, Collins and Newman for publishing information in the public domain without the central committee's consent.
