South African drug mule arrested at SSKIA

A South African woman was arrested at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in possesion of 30kg of Ephedrine, an illegal substance in Botswana, on Saturday.

The woman is said to have been in transit from New Delhi, India, to South Africa, according to airport security personnel.According to an insider at the Airport security, the woman had hid the drugs in her handbag."The drugs were retrieved from her handbag. We immediately alerted the police who came to interrogate her," said the security officer.

The security officer said according to the woman, a Nigerian man approached her to transport the drugs in return for R15,000 if she successfully delivered the package.Station Commander of the Sir Seretse Khama Police (SSKP) Station Superintendent Bannetse Keakile confirmed the incident Officer commanding at the Narcotic Fauna and Flora Investigations Miriam Kilano explained that although the drug was legitimately used as treatment for Asthma it could be turned into an illegal drug."Dealers often use this chemical to dissect it into illicit manufacturing of methamphetamine, which is illegal," she said.  Kilano added that this chemical is often produced in secret labs mostly in India.
