A fight between step father and step son has landed a 79-year-old woman of Botshabelo ward, Sese Village in hospital.

The woman was attacked by her son as she tried to intervene and break up the fight.

Confirming the incident, Jwaneng police station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti revealed that the 31-year-old suspect was initially fighting with his 88-year-old step father but later ended up assaulting his mother.

“Through our preliminary investigations we have established that the duo (son and her step father) were fighting for a wallet and in the process he ended up hitting his mother with a metal rod on her head.

It is alleged that the mother was trying to intervene and was caught in the cross fire,' he said.

Police said the woman sustained serious injuries in the process and they are yet to interview the old woman who is currently hospitalized at Princess Marina Hospital for her side of the story.

Furthermore, Basuti revealed that the step father had also sustained injuries but he was treated and released.

Meanwhile, “the suspect was arrested and was recently arraigned before Jwaneng Magistrates Court,” he said.
