Somerset squatters to be evicted

FRANCISTOWN: A recent investigation by the Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) has established that some squatters at Somerset Extension were part of families that were previously allocated residential plots around Francistown.

Most of the families that currently live in makeshift structures around the Somerset Extension location were allocated SHHA plots at the Gerald Estate location amongst others.

After some of the families exploited the SHHA loan scheme and developed their plots, some of them chose to return to their previous dwelling places near the Tati River. They returned to live under squalid conditions so that the council would allocate them new plots.
