PALAPYE: Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairman, Daniel 'DK' Kwelagobe, has said that there are people who think they own President Ian Khama.

"The party unanimously endorsed Ian Khama as party president in Kanye and therefore he belongs to all of us," he said emphatically at a rally to launch Palapye MP, Moiseraele Master Goya. He said if they had wanted to oppose him Khama for the BDP presidency, they could have chosen someone to challenge him. He stated that efforts are being made to heal the deep divisions in the party. "When going to the Kanye congress some prophets of doom had prophesised that there would be a split in the BDP but they were dead wrong," he said to loud applause from the crowd. He told people who criticised government for keeping huge foreign reserves to open their eyes and see the wisdom of the move.

Specially Elected MP, Moggie Mabaakanyi,  who described herself as 'ngwana wa Palapye' said she had come to bolster Goya's campaign to prove that she was not bitter after her husband, Moffat Mabaakanyi lost the bid to stand as a parliamentary candidate in Palapye. She advised fellow democrats who had lost primary elections to support those who emerged victorious. She explained that Professor Sheila Tlou, who lost primary elections to Goya, wanted to attend the rally but was held up by pressing family matters.
