Soldier in police custody for pedestrian's death

FRANCISTOWN: A 27-year-old Botswana Defence Force (BDF) male soldier based at the Glen Valley camp was arrested on Friday for allegedly running over and killing a pedestrian in Tonota.

Tonota Police Station commander, Oteng Ngada confirmed that they are investigating a fatal accident that occurred in the village. The incident took place on Friday night along the A1 Highway.

According to Ngada, the soldier was driving a Toyota RunX that hit the pedestrian who was crossing the road from the western side to the east end. He said the pedestrian, a 35-year-old man from Tonota, was certified dead upon arrival at a local clinic.
