'Smart Partners' discuss national visions

Representatives from 10 Southern African countries met at the Gaborone Sun for a two-day Smart Partnership meeting over the past weekend.

The event started on Sunday evening with the 'Smart Partners' meeting the media, mainly to brief them on what the Gaborone meeting was all about.
Representatives from the governments of Mozambique, Swaziland and Botswana briefly shared with the media how far they have achieved in implementation of their national visions.
Former state president, Sir Ketumile Masire also took part in the Sunday evening briefing.
Cabinet Ministers and national vision coordinators attended the Get-Together from the respective countries. 
Participating countries shared their experiences in the development and implementation of their national visions so they could benefit from each other's successes. 
Malaysia, the only non-African country in this initiative has been spearheading the Smart Partnership Movement since it first took off in 1996.
The Asian country shares its experiences again with other countries so they can learn from its national vision, "Malaysia Vision 2020 & the Ninth Malaysia Plan.
Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique shared their experiences in the get-together that ran from Sunday evening to Monday.
The emphasis in this get-together, according to CPTM CEO, Mihaela Smith is 'actions' because those national visions can only be meaningful when they have been translated into practice.
She described the get-together as very important since it is about sharing of experiences at a very high level.
Smith described the Smart Partnership Movement as a very unique platform for Southern African countries to share experiences through international and national dialogue.
The London based CPTM CEO singled out Malaysia for praise, for its role in nourishing members of the Smart Partnership Movement.
Malaysia will  host this year's smart partnership meeting on the island of Lankgawi in August.
