Skelemani takes foreign relations to the kgotla

FRANCISTOWN: In an unusual show of accountability and openness, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Phandu Skelemani has shared the mandate of his ministry as well as its successes and challenges with of the public.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Tatitown on Monday, Skelemani said Batswana reserved the right to know how their money was spent and to examine whether they agreed with the way it was spent.

He said in the past, the ministry's main focus was on issues of liberation from Portuguese rule in Angola and Mozambigue, white settler rule in Rhodesia, South African white minority colonial rule in Namibia and apartheid in South Africa.  Skelemani characterised the liberation struggle as an era of turbulence occasioned by conflict between the liberation movement and recalcitrant minority regimes in Africa.
