Six charged with dealing in dagga

FRANCISTOWN: A Zimbabwean national Khesiwe Sibanda appeared alone in court on Thursday to face a single count of dagga dealing.

Sibanda is jointly charged with Dorcas Lekgetho (supplies officer), Sydney Sebunga (an unemployed mechanic), Thembile Sebunga (unemployed), Opasitse Lekgetho (student at Botswana College of Engineering and Technology) and Batswana Lekgetho (plant operator at Tati Nickel Mine). The state alleges that the accused, being persons not licensed, authorised or exempted to deal in dagga, a habit forming drug, were found to be dealing in marijuana at Area A location on March 22, 2013.

The prosecution told the court that the purpose of the appearance was to set mention dates in the matter so that the case can go for trial.Attorney Tshekiso Tshekiso of Tshekiso Ditiro and Jani Attorneys represent all the accused persons. In another case, Sibanda briefly appeared in court for allegedly being found in possession of dagga.The state alleges that Sibanda was found with dagga weighing 49,2 kilogrammes at Mmandunyane village on June 6 in 2012. She is jointly charged with two other persons in this case.
