Sign language workshop off to a positive start

The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs is currently hosting a training workshop on sign language for 37 officers, with the assistance of the Botswana Society for the Deaf.

The workshop began on Tuesday and will be held for a week at the Botswana Bureau of Standards Conference Hall. Out of the three strategic themes in line with people with disabilities, coordinated by the Office of President, being Empowerment, Equality and Accessibility, the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs have chosen the theme of accessibility to ensure that all their customers have access to their service by developing a customer service charter which intends to translate into sign language and package into audio visual material.

Speaking during the official opening of the workshop, the director of the department of civil and national registration Neo Lepang mentioned that communication is very important and it is their mandate to ensure that Batswana and the public at large have equal access to services, regardless of disabilities.
