SIDA hailed for supporting Met service

The Director of Meteorological Services Phetolo Phage has hailed the Swedish government, through the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), for its support of the Botswana government through a number of bi-lateral co-operation programmes.

Speaking at a capacity  building workshop, Phage said since 2006, the Department of Meteorological and Hydrological Services (DMS) and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) have been working together to improve the capacity of DMS to provide national weather services in Botswana.Inventories and analyses of current operations and facilities, including technical infrastructure and routine, were made.

"Training activities targeted at improving specific aspects of forecasting, climatology and monitoring networks were carried out for DMS staff, contributing directly to both the primary and specific project objectives," Phage said.
