In politics five years is a very long time. In five years anything can happen. New political stars can be born while stars of yesterday could be fossilised with political dung at the lower end of the heap.

It is no contradiction of terms to suggest that five years in politics could be a short time too. You do not have to look any further than the Serowe constituencies to see the metaphor of 'the more things change the more they stay the same' at work. Opposition political parties have over the last 40 years tried to compete for political space with the ruling party in the Serowe constituencies but the political wind vane keeps blowing in one direction - the BDP way.

When you think the political landscape in Ga-mmangwato constituencies will dovetail with political scientists categorisation such as 'conservative' or 'BDP fortress' there is sudden talk of the BDP being routed in one of its safest constituencies.
