Shooting victim demands P4 million from the state

A Gaborone man has slapped the government with a P4 million suit after his shooting by a CID officer last year.

The 22-year-old Ofentse Sekuta Morwe says he was shot and wounded by a plainclothes police officer on August 22 last year near Phakalane on his way to work. The bullet went through the pelvic area smashing the upper thighbone on its way out.

Morwe's lawyer Busang Manewe has said his client wants P4 million as compensation from the government. In a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Manewe says the P4 million compensation was calculated on the basis of loss of earning for 36 years (P2.6 million), pain and suffering at P400,000, permanent disfigurement at P500,000 and P500,000 for medical expenses.
