Sewerage workers to lose jobs

Sewerage workers in Gaborone and surrounding areas face the sack as the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) continues to take over potable water reticulation from district councils and Water Affairs department.

An aggrieved Gaborone City Council (GCC) employees, who spoke on condition of anonymity, informed Mmegi yesterday that the Ministry of Local Government had called sewerage workers from Ramotswa, Kanye, Tlokweng, Molepolole and Gaborone councils this week to inform them that some of them would be asked to sign documents, terminating their jobs at the end next month.

"They told us that those aged 45 downwards might be spared, while those aged 50 and above would have to go," he said.
