Seven Francistown councillors bite the dust

FRANCISTOWN: Seven councillors in all three Francistown constituencies were defeated in the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary elections over the weekend.

Botswana's second city has 22 councillors, including three specially nominated.
Major upsets were registered in trouble-torn Francistown West where serving councillors Esther Mokgosi, Wilfred Masima and Ace Ntheetsang lost on Saturday. In Botsalano Ward, Mokgosi was trounced by former Deputy Mayor Angelina Sengalo. In Monarch East, the youthful newcomer Raoboy Mpuang walloped Masima and one Otto Masogo. The former Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) Secretary General Cornelius Gopolang defeated Ntheetsang in Kanana Ward.

Ntheetsang was on the campaign team of the winner of the Francistown West parliament contestant Tshelang Walter Masisi, who trounced Peter Ngoma and Sylvia Muzila for the seat. Gopolang and Masima were Ngoma's allies while Mokgosi was with Muzila.
