Seven babies born in prison since 2000

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Seven children were born to women prison inmates since 2000, two of them to foreign nationals, a meeting of the Selebi-Phikwe full council heard on Thursday.

Nominated councillor Benjamin Bagayi had asked about the number of children born to mothers who were prison inmates since 2000 and what policy was in place for nursing inmates and their children.

The answer from the Department of Prisons and Rehabilitation Services was that one child was born to a foreign national in 2000, another was born in 2001 to a local, two more were born in 2002.
