The President of Pan African Parliament (PAP) Bethel Amadi has called for the establishment of an African Court of Justice (ACJ) to preside over African matters.

Addressing journalists after paying a courtesy call on President Ian Khama and the Speaker of National Assembly Dr Margaret Nasha, Amadi said it was only Africans who could solve their problems. "My feeling is that there should be an ACJ which should be given criminal jurisdiction to deal with African problems. It is high time Africans solve their problems.

"We are not saying we condone genocides or any crimes against humanity, but it is high time Africa found its footing and solved continental problems," Amadi said.  Amadi had visited Botswana to garner support and assistance in the advocacy to support the adoption of the draft amended Protocol. Amadi said the draft amended Protocol underwent several rigorous validation meetings and workshops facilitated by the African Union (AU), commission and governments legal experts and was officially approved without reservations by the ministers of justice and attorneys general in May 2012.
