Serowe woman in court for hiring killers

FRANCISTOWN: A case in which a Serowe woman is accused of hiring four men to kill three of her relatives will resume on Wednesday at the Francistown High Court.

The accused, Olivia Olebeletse Keboletse is facing three counts of attempted murder, after allegations that in 2006, she attempted to cause the deaths of her uncle Richard Merafhe, Keboletse Mooketsi and Steven Keboletse. She is said to have hired Keboikantse Dikgakgamatso, Goodwin Maphashike, Collen Constan Nyandaro and Kudzani Maphashike to burn her uncle's house.

The hired men reportedly threw a container of petrol with a flaming box into the uncle's room. The uncle was sleeping with the two other people in the same room, though he was the target. However, all the three supposed victims managed to escape the inferno. The four hired men are expected to give evidence against Keboletse in court. They have pleaded guilty to the offences and were sentenced to seven years each. The case was scheduled for trial last week when the accused faxed a sick leave from a private hospital to the High Court.
