Serowe constituencies reject BOFEPUSU invitation?

SEROWE: Organisers of the Botswana Federation of Public Service Unions (BOFEPUSU) star rally held in Serowe last Thursday indicated that the three Serowe constituencies, declined invitations to attend the event that attracted over 2,000 striking employees.

The Serowe constituencies are:Serowe North East, Serowe North West and Serowe South. Organisers said the response they got from the MPs' offices was that the constituencies had been ordered not to attend such gatherings. Previously BOFEPUSU here was refused by the tribal authorities to address the community and even denied a permit to call the community to their meeting. BOFEPUSU official Solomon Batsietswe said however that they would continue to enjoy free movement around Serowe because they are engaged in a legally recognised strike.

"We showed our decency by inviting the MPs' offices, but they rejected us." He stressed that they will continue to explore all interventions to have their concerns addressed even if it means seeking international intervention.
