Sentence too harsh on mother and child - Judge

FRANCISTOWN: Justice John Mosojane has reserved ruling on an appeal by a woman who was sentenced by the Francistown magistrate court in June to seven years in prison for burning another woman.

Mosojane believes that Matshidiso George's sentence was too harsh. He said he would grant a new sentence next week. "I will give a new sentence some time next week. So for now the ruling is reserved," he said.

Mosojane made it was clear that he did not think that the appellant deserved to be sent to prison for seven years if the extenuating circumstances and mitigating factors had been reviewed carefully.
