Senior police officer found dead in suspected suicide

The Botswana Police Service (BPS) has revealed that one of their senior officers allegedly took his own life this past Monday.

According to a statement issued by BPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Public Relations Officer Near Bagali disclosed that the deceased was stationed at the Urban Police Station in Gaborone.

Bagali indicated that BPS is already looking into the matter to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

“The Botswana Police Service regrets to confirm the death of a senior police officer who allegedly committed suicide on Monday. Investigations have since commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement reads.


Bagali on behalf of BPS took an opportunity to extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and friends of the deceased officer.

The service also appealed to members of the public to accord the family with the much needed privacy to come to terms with the loss of their loved one.

“The BPS extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and friends during this difficult time. We appeal to the public to respect the family’s privacy, and space to mourn their loss,” Bagali said.

Further details on surrounding the incident remain under police investigation.
