'Send your own to AU' Lewanika

Dr Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika never really wanted to be a politician. So confesses the ambassador of Zambia to the United States of America, now vying for chairperson of the African Union (AU).

Lewanika, speaking from her Big Five lodge patio yesterday, confesses that when she grew up, it never occurred to her that she would become a politician.

After all her parents were politicians 'who worked all the time in a thankless job'...they had to leave their bedrooms, sometimes at meal times, to share food with visitors.
