Selebi-Phikwe Council abattoir reopens

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Selebi-Phikwe Town Council abattoir resumed operations on Tuesday after a temporary shutdown due to the recent Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Matsiloje.

Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, the Town Clerk Mompati Seleka said they have been given a go-ahead by the Department of Veterinary Services to start receiving and slaughtering cattle. He said the shutdown had given them an opportunity to inspect the facility and they even realised that there were some minor repairs that needed to be done.

He explained that the plan of the council was to have a shutdown by the end of June but that will not be necessary.
