Sefhare: the newhome for the opposition in Tswapong

Historically, like most BDP strongholds, Sefhare village has the mark of the Khamas.

Here the late Sir Seretse Khama owns a big orchard that flourishes at the foot of the mighty Tswapong Hill. The Seretse Orchard, which his son President Ian Khama often visits, also sits on what traditionalists in Sefhare have always said is the home of their ancestral spirits, something that has connected the Khamas with the people of Sefhare in revering the same gods.

However, this past weekend as the BDP hosted a rare national event in Sefhare, its delegates found a somewhat rebellious Tswapong village which kicked out  both BDP councillors from the village in 2009, replacing them with two Botswana Congress Party (BCP) councillors for the first time ever.
