Security guard terror

Staff members at the controversy-ridden Mass Media Complex were thrown into a state of panic last Friday night after a security guard (name withheld) pulled out a gun on Botswana Television (Btv) workers threatening to shoot them on two occasions.

Sources at the government media house say the first incident happened around six o'clock in the evening when Btv news reporter Nenguba Fati was confronted by an aggressive security guard who arm-twisted him and pointed a pistol under his chin. The reporter who was on duty is said to have been so struck with fear that after he broke free from the gun-toting guard, bolted out of the complex in a daze and left.

"They were seemingly talking about a back door that Fati had used to exit the Btv news room. It is not supposed to be opened and we suspect the guard must have been furious that Fati had used it," said one of the sources.
