'Scandalous' Security Firm Admits Hiring Refugees

The guards arrived at the offices of the Francistown offices of the Monitor last week, brandishing a handwritten letter of complaints and correspondence between the District Labour Office and the Managing Director of the company.

In their letter of complaints in which the workers characterise their working conditions as "scandalous", they say casual employees are made to work up to 13 months without overtime pay, double time and leave pay while denied days off.

They allege that money is often deducted from their pay slips as advance when they never took any advances and complain that the company makes them pay for their uniforms. They say they have brought this to the attention of the labour office, but no action has been taken.
