Saleshando to camp at UB on Monday

Gaborone Central MP, Dumelang Saleshando has promised to camp at the University of Botswana on Monday to circumvent the frustrations he has suffered at the hands of the Students Representative Council (SRC).

He said that the SRC, which is dominated by members of the Botswana National Front (BNF), has failed to meet him to discuss students' problems at the university. The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) MP told UB students at Notwane grounds yesterday that he is their MP and he has the right to meet them. He said he will erect a stall at the Students' Centre on Monday to meet students.

"I am the Gaborone Central MP. The people voted me in this constituency to be their voice in Parliament. I am not here to campaign for the SRC office. It is my right to meet with the students and on Monday, I will be at the university as the BCP MP," he said to applause from the students.  He explained to the students that if they have not been told of how he has been assisting the SRC with funds, they must come on Monday to see the documents he will present to prove his case. He said the SRC made it big news after the BNF candidate, Kagiso Thutlwe helped stranded students with food. "Will two loaves of bread take him to Parliament. We both know that the SRC is dominated by BNF and it is not a secret that I belittle BNF. I know that malice is part of BNF. When I asked them about the problems the students are facing, they were happy to tell me that their lawyer is demanding P70,000 from them for the court case as they thought I will run for my cheque book to avoid being accused of not helping them," he told the students.
