Saleshando revels in new BCP status

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) president, Dumelang Saleshando has hailed the declaration of BCP as the official opposition party as a historic event. He stated that it is a major achievement for an outfit that was just a one party MP three years ago, a curse, which has hang over BCP since 1999.

"Just less than three years ago, we were a one MP party, a status that had stuck with us for 10 years since we first contested elections in 1999, and stubbornly hung on like a curse until 2009," he said.

He stated that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Margaret Nasha has not made a mistake by declaring the BCP as the official opposition party. The declaration saw Saleshando taking over as Leader of Opposition in Parliament in place of ex-Botswana Movement for Democracy vice-president, Botsalo Ntuane who has returned to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
